Dr Samir Uprety

Dr Samir Uprety, an optometrist and vision science researcher, joined Southside Eye Centre as a Clinical Researcher in Ophthalmology in 2024. He is actively involved in various projects aimed at enhancing the outcomes of corneal and cataract surgeries through evidence-based ophthalmological practices.
His research interests encompass both clinical: ophthalmology and optometry and basic science: retinal physiology, psychophysics, visual electrophysiology, pupil dynamic domains.
Dr. Uprety obtained his optometry degree and training in Nepal and the Philippines. He completed his doctoral training at the Centre of Eye Research, Queensland University of Technology (QUT). His doctoral work primarily focused on the interactions between different photoreceptor types (melanopsin cells, cones, and rods) in the human visual system, using novel electrophysiological and psychophysical tools. For his research achievements, he was honored with the Faculty of Health Executive Dean’s Commendation for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis in 2023.
Dr Uprety has served as a member of the Optical Society of America (now OPTICA) and the International Society of Eye Research (ISER) and has contributed to several peer-reviewed original research articles spanning various areas of optometry, ophthalmology, and vision science.
