Vision for Life Institute Conference 2026: A Powerful Showcase of Education, Innovation & Impact
The Vision for Life Institute Conference 2026 brought together optometrists and ophthalmology leaders for an unforgettable day of learning, collaboration, and inspiration.
From cutting-edge clinical insights to moments of laughter—and even a few tears—this year’s conference truly captured what it means to combine education with purpose.
Setting the Tone: Practical Learning from the Start
We kicked off the conference with an engaging session from Dr Ryan Nugent, who explored the nuances of identifying lid lesions—benign versus sinister. With practical takeaways and even a light-hearted nod to Dr Pimple Popper, it was the perfect balance of education and entertainment to start the day.
Momentum continued with Dr Braden Meiklejohn, who delivered a sharp update on the latest advances in glaucoma management. His session offered clear, real-world strategies and a forward-looking view on where glaucoma care is heading.
Diving Deeper: Complex Cases & Clinical Precision
Throughout the day, attendees were immersed in high-value, clinically relevant content:
- Dr Anthony Fong sparked strong interest with his session on optic nerve swelling vs pseudoswelling—highlighting just how critical (and challenging) neuro-ophthalmology can be in everyday practice.
- Dr Alexander Newman’s OCT Masterclass unpacked the subtle mistakes that can delay treatment, particularly in Geographic Atrophy, reinforced by insights into emerging therapies in this rapidly evolving space.
A strong focus on evidence-based care came through in the research update from Samir Uprety, OD, PhD, reminding us that innovation must always be backed by robust data.
Expertise Meets Personality
Education was delivered with the signature VFLI style—where expertise meets authenticity:
- Dr Cameron McLintock led an insightful session on corneal and refractive surgery, even shedding light on the often-unspoken topic of Demodex (yes… those tiny “eye parasites”).
- Dr Ashley Porter brought both clarity and connection to his session on ocular surface lesions, with strong audience engagement and practical insights.
- Dr Ken Ng took us into the fascinating world of the vitreous humour—complete with an unforgettable appearance in a giraffe onesie, proving that great education doesn’t have to take itself too seriously.
When Every Second Counts
One of the standout clinical sessions came from Dr Ye Li, who delivered a focused and highly practical approach to ocular emergency management.
Eye emergencies don’t wait—and this session reinforced the importance of recognising red flags, making rapid decisions, and taking immediate action when vision is at risk. Calm, clear, and clinically invaluable.
A Moment That Moved the Room
Among all the education and discussion, one moment stood apart.
Dr Cameron McLintock joined Supipi Jayawardena from The Fred Hollows Foundation to announce a new collaboration and introduce the Eye for an Eye initiative.
What followed was a powerful showcase of the Foundation’s life-changing work restoring sight to people around the world.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
At Vision for Life Institute, we are incredibly proud to align with organisations that are transforming lives through something as simple—and as profound—as sight. When missions align, meaningful change happens.
